Its time for another episode of Finley & Max
So after the pilot episodes were a huge hit with our test audiences, we were ready to move full-throttle on developing a slew of mini episodes. The idea is these would serve to play as interstitials between regular PBS programming like Curious George and Between the Lions.
Emily and I wrote a lot of scripts, and then we reviewed them, and Emily would edit them and make lots of great suggestions and then we were ready to get to work.
There was just one hold up – just a few days before shooting, and it dawned on me that nobody built a set. We just had the backdrop that we used in the pilot episodes. The funny thing is, I half-expected the station to initiate it – but they all looked at me as the creative lead and were waiting for me to tell them what to do. So I spent the weekend before production down at the station hammering and nailing, building the “crate” foreground piece, designing signage for the walls, and buying all types of brikabrak and junk and toys to make our “clubhouse” feel like a real, vibrant, exciting hangout for Max and Fin.
